Activity Lotus | Space and Activity

01 INTRODUCTION
‘Activity Lotus’ is a 3D sculpturic model made from the intepretation of space and activity at home to showcase the function and quality of spaces. By mapping out the activity movement based on its intensity within spaces in home, the 3D model is made to re-interpret the quality and characteristic of space, for example, spaces which are frequently used are made to be larger, private spaces to be hidden and so on.
02 DESIGN CONCEPT
The appearance of lotus is chosen as it symbolize purity and eternity, which are the elements that wished to be seen in a home.
Purity
Safe and not ‘contaminated’ by the ‘evil’ of outside world
Eternity
The love of home should be long lasting until forever.
DESIGN PROCESS
Layering of small vertical planes is used to mimic the appearance of lotus, at the same time creating a private space at the middle of the lotus.
A transparent bubble is metaphored to be public space, which is holded by the root, where the root symbolize long walkway connects to private area.
Wire is used as root that lift and support the public and semi-public area at the upper part, while lower part is the private area submerging inside the water, covered by roots, with hidden entrance high on top. Heart-shaped private area symbolize the importance of privacy at home.
