Rock Cliff Retreat is a family retreat with rock-like appearance that camouflage into the cliff to bring the users closer to the nature. The retreat is designed to be cantilevered on the cliff wall to reduce its exposurity to the others, at the same time to preserve the natural view on the cliff. Facing to the sea and surrounded by trees, the building provide a wonderful retreat from the hustle and bustle of town to the family.
GENERAL BRIEF
The project is to design a temporary living spaces or a retreat house for student’s family of four (4) within a specific site. The Family Retreat must be functioned as a habitable architectural space to enable the activity associated with living, dining, cooking, storage, showering and others within the buildup space of 120sqm
02 SITE
The proposed site for this academic project is located at a cliff in Bako National Park, Kuching Sarawak.

Location Plan (N.T.S)
The cliff is located by the shore where the sea is located at the North-West direction, beaches at the South-West direction. Other than that, the remaining surrounding of the cliff is covered by forest. The site is proposed as it has beautiful natural surrounding which is perfect for a family retreat.

VIEW APPRECIATION

Window and outdoor spaces are designed all around the building to appreciate the natural sea view,
SLOPED ROOF
Sloped or lowered roof is designed at the west openings to prevent excessive sunlight from entering and heating up the spaces, while ensuring good natural sunglight.
The entrance of the family retreat is designed facing the sea while opposing the direction of people flow, making it hidden from other but welcoming the nature.
